|Celebrate harmony! That's what we're spending this whole year doing. It's a natural thing for the 75th anniversary of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.), also known as the Barbershop Harmony Society. It was also a natural theme for our spring show!|
Our show told the history of the Society, and featured songs from every period of its life. Pictures of the champion quartets that sang our selected songs were shown, along with other appropriate images.
The show worked really well. The audience enjoyed it, and it was a good show for our chorus.
And we enjoyed doing the show can you tell?
In the middle of the show, the projected images were pictures from The Music Man. Our guests interrupted our show at that point to delight the audience with their version of "Lida Rose".
(It's really worthwhile to go see their "Lida Rose" performance on YouTube.)
Our show also featured several quartets from within our chorus. I think they all looked and sounded good, but you can judge for yourself.
Yes, to make our show really incredible, we had as our guest quartet the 2010 International Champion Quartet StormFront. These guys are great! Their singing is fantastic, too! They gave an amazing performance for us and our audience that had everyone going wild. And they were very obviously enjoying themselves.
Winning the international competition is a really big thing! A quartet that wins, and becomes an International Champion Quartet, can never compete again. They get to sing and perform all over the world, but their days in competition are over.
