New MexiChords 2012 Christmas Season Shows

The New MexiChords took the stage for their Christmas shows just over a week into December.

The full chorus sang, as well as several quartets and a VLQs (Very Large Quartet), and our special guests the Eldorado Gold Rush.

Several quartets sang, including Rio Bravo and ABQ (A Barbershop Quartet)

as well as City Lites and Quartessence

Quartessence sang a Christmas song called "Diddley Squat". Its first laugh line was "But you ain't getting diddley squat 'cause you really messed up this year!"

(It was hard getting good pictures from where our photographer was sitting. The microphone stand — and the director — kept getting in the way. For these quartets, our photographer got better pictures of City Lites and Quartessence at the Valencia show [see below].)

At the Albuquerque show, there were also songs from the Harmonikats ("Sleigh Ride") and a VLQ (Very Large Quartet, singing "Little Drummer Boy").

Because of illness, these groups didn't sing on the Valencia show,

The New MexiChords sang, enjoying ourselves a lot (especially on the "Fa La La" take-off on "Deck the Halls" — from which, these shots come),

then the Eldorado Gold Rush sang (and man, do those kids sing great),

and then the two choruses sang together.

The following week, the New MexiChords sang as the guests of the UNM/Valencia chorus at the Third Annual Winter Show at the Valencia (County) Campus of the University of New Mexico. As in Albuquerque, there were few empty seats.

Our hosts sang first.

After we sang our set,

having a lot of fun as we did,
we sang together with them for the show's finale.

(Fortunately, we'd had a chance to actually practice with the Valencia chorus, though only for a few minutes, just before the show.

The New MexiChords also sang twice at the Albuquerque BioPark's River of Lights program. Sorry, but there are no pictures from that this year — it was too cold for our photographer.

If you enjoy barbershop style music, watch for our next show and come hear us sing.
Or come sing with us. It's really fun!

The New MexiChords is an a cappella barbershop chorus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society.
